Usb Power Saving Settings

Right click on the usb root hub you want to change and then click on properties to open the usb port s properties dialog box.

For the notebook computer in our example there is only a balanced setting. If you want to enable windows vista to turn off the usb root hub when the computer is running on battery power click enabled in the on battery list. Choose your desired settings using the checkboxes and then click on ok to save these settings. Set both the on battery and plugged in settings to disabled then click ok to apply changes.

Click change advanced power settings then scroll down to usb settings and click the little plus next to usb selective suspend setting to expand the options. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for all of the usb root hubs on the computer. Depending on your computer you may see several preset plan settings balanced power saving performance etc. Under preferred plan click the change plan settings link for the plan you re currently using.

In the power options dialog box expand usb settings and then expand usb selective suspend setting. If you change the settings on the power plan that isn t active this won t. Click the start button and type edit power plan in the windows search box. Repeat this process for each usb port hub you want to change.

Click change advanced power settings. Or check it to let windows turn off usb ports to save power. If you are using a laptop computer this feature may help if you do not want usb powered devices to draw off the computer s battery while the devices are not actively being used. Click on ok to save your changes.

Under the power tab you can see the power output for that usb port. Click the power management tab. Click on power options. Click on the power management tab and then choose the power settings you want using the check boxes next to each option.

Under the selected power plan click change plan settings.
